WHAT VISA'S DO I NEED TO WORK ON THE SUPER YACHTS?

We advise all crew wanting to work overseas to obtain their B1 / B2 American visa before you leave. It is easier to obtain this in your own country even if your current circumstances do not require this, (e.g. heading to Europe) as you will eventually need this when your vessel heads to the states. You will be required to go to the embassy for an interview to obtain this. Most visas are valid from between 6 months - 10 years pending which country you are in and it is a multi entry visa. If you are in Australia go to or call on 1902 941 641 to down load the form and get the correct information. http://usembassy-australia.state.gov

A B1/B2 visa is a visa which allows you to work on foreign flagged vessels cruising American waters. This type of visa does not allow you to work on land or American Flagged vessels. If you are caught on an American flagged vessel without a Green Card you will be deported from the country.

WHAT IF I HAVE NO YACHTING EXPERIENCE?

Having no previous yachting experience is not a disadvantage to you, as most Yacht Captains, Chief Officers and Chief Steward/ Stewardess prefer to employ candidates that they can train themselves. WHEN ARE THE YACHTING SEASONS?

THE MEDITERREAN SEASON “Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Italy, Turkey, France, Greece”
The best months for these countries average from early April to Late November. This is the prime time for crew to look for work due to the yachts beginning their season with owners and guests. Hence needing extra crew to help them out through the busy time and possibly leading to permanent work.

CARRIBBEAN AND BAHAMAS SEASON “Antigua, St Maarten”
The busiest time for yachting in the Caribbean is it's winter months, but saying that it is fortunately active all year round just like the Bahamas is a popular spot all year round. Majority of Crew will be flown from Fort Lauderdale, Florida (where majority of crew base themselves) for the Bahamas due to it being so close to the Untied States of America as it's uncommon for crew to base themselves in the Bahamas.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA "Newport, Rhode Island" “Ft Lauderdale”
In the summer months (May - September) majority of the yachts are making their way from Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean, to head to the northeast coast of the United States. New Port, Rhode Island and all the way down to New York and the surrounding Islands are, an extremely active spot for yachting with owners and charter guests.
